Ourchive Beta: June Update

Hello again! We've got a couple pieces of news for you today: a welcome to some people who have been helping out on the project, a survey link for those of you with strong opinions on how a work form should be organized, and finally, some info on our next release. Let's roll.

Welcome & Thanks

Huge thanks to BrightPerigrine for coming onto the project and immediately having a huge impact on our UI/UX.

Similarly huge thanks to bellisk for reporting a bunch of setup issues and PR'ing some fixes.

And finally, thanks (small thanks...just kidding. all of these are huge thanks) to jadedofmara for helping with tag categorizations for our default OOTB tagset.

thank you.

Survey

BrightPerigrine has created a card sort survey for our work form. The goal is to understand how creators would prefer to organize information as they create a work on Ourchive. If you are so inclined, please do provide your feedback. We created a similar survey for browsing and found it enormously helpful.

Ourchive Beta v0.6.0

We'll be releasing Ourchive v0.6.0 the first week of July (precise date TBD). This is a big release - we ended up rolling in a bunch of UI updates and search enhancements, as well as planned features and bugfixes. Highlights include:

  • Work series and anthologies
  • Updated search interface
  • Saved searches
  • New browsing interface
  • Updated color palette
  • S3-compatible blob storage support
  • Fixing setup issues uncovered by users (<3)
  • Updating all our public-facing documentation for cohesiveness
  • Documenting and enhancing our (new) cypress test suite

We've delayed the timeline of this release deliberately due to the magnitude of some of these updates. Having said that, our hope is this will be the last 'beefy' release of our beta cycle.
