What is Ourchive?
Ourchive is multimedia fan archive software meant to address the gap between old-school eFiction archives and modern centralized websites like Wattpad and Archive of Our Own.
The last 10+ years of the internet have been a story of centralization and accompanying moderation struggles and ideological clashes. Our stance is simple: we think fans should be able to install modern software, which lets them post and curate fanworks, without needing a background in computer science. To achieve this goal, we built Ourchive.
And yes: as fandom hags, 'Ourchive' is a nod to our most direct predecessor, AO3.
Who is behind Ourchive?
Ourchive is being built by kate, imp, and verity.
Can I sign up for Ourchive?
Great question! Our pilot instance is currently closed for singups. If you aspire to being a sysadmin, you can set up your own instance.
Can I help develop Ourchive?
Absolutely. Head over to our Developer Documentation for more information.
How do I post a work/bookmark/collection?
Check out our User Docs for site guides and information.
What's the long-term plan here exactly?
For features up to 1.0, you can review our Roadmap.
After we hit 1.0 and spend a few weeks relaxing on the beach about it, the sky is really the limit. We are interested in building something fun and usable, but also something that genuinely contributes to the long-term stability of online fanworks. We have an idea board that draws from user feedback for this reason.
We also want to help aspiring admins get up and running. Our ability to moderate content is limited, but we want people to use the software. To that end, we host Q&As on our Discord and are always available for troubleshooting help.
We're in this for the long haul, not least because we are creators and curators ourselves: we want somewhere to put our work. So if you have features you'd like to see, whether those features are more advanced audio processing, federation, in-line comments, or collaborative tools, please let us know.
